Health intervention with Cuban vaccine Abdala advances in Holguín

After two weeks of starting the health intervention with the Cuban vaccine Abdala in populations older than 19 years, more than 123,000 people from Holguín have at least one dose of the immunogen, with 100 percent efficacy in the prevention of severe systemic disease and death.

Dr. Luis Orlando Castro, deputy director general of public health, specified that tomorrow, Monday, the administration of the drug will begin in people between 19 and 59 years of age, taking into account the social distancing measures and the protocols established in the process.

He indicated that through the family doctor's offices, staggered schedules will be established to avoid crowds at the nearly 200 clinical sites and vaccination points set up in the provincial capital, where the mass vaccination began last July 12th.

In the eastern territory, the manager stressed, the administration of the three-dose scheme will also continue to be administered to pregnant women, nursing mothers and those over 60 years old, among the sectors at risk in the evolution of patients towards serious forms of the disease.

Castro also emphasized the essential biosecurity standards to avoid contagion with Sars-Cov-2, among which are the use of face masks, social isolation and shoes desinfection in homes, which should be reinforced in the middle of immunization with Abdala, the first in Latin America to obtain an emergency use authorization from the Cuban regulatory authority.

Holguín also prioritizes the administration of the vaccine to patients from social institutions such as nursing homes and psychiatric centers, medical personnel and medical students convalescing from the disease and benefiting from Soberana Plus.

Artists support health intervention in Holguín

A varied stage program, which includes lyrical singing, acting and oral narration, is proposed by the artists belonging to the Provincial Council of Performing Arts in Holguín to support the health intervention with the Abdala vaccine.

Among the groups, the oral narration company "Words to the Wind" stands out, directed by Fermín López, with small-format actions that usually include a single member of the group in compliance with the health measures aimed at preventing COVID-19, stressed Yanet Pérez, president of this association in the Holguin territory.

In this way, each of the members proposes in different vaccination centers stories from the company's repertoire through small scenes of their works, as well as didactic stories that accompany the public during the waiting time and after vaccination.

On the other hand, the Rodrigo Prats Lyrical Theater, directed by María Dolores Rodríguez, presents small representations, in the voice of soloists, of the national and international operatic repertoire, and great songs of popular music of all times, she explained.

More than 1,400 artists from Holguín, including students and fans, support the health intervention with Abdala from the various art manifestations in the centers enabled for its application, where groups of small formats offer brief performances while the population selected for this phase waits to be vaccinated.

The actions include presentations by soloists, duos, troubadours, oral narrators, declaimers, audiovisual projections and small exhibitions of visual arts, as well as sale stands and books for loan and other materials.

Holguín's Turquino canning factory extends productive ties with agricultural mini-industries

The Turquino canning factory in the city of Holguín, the only facility of its kind in the east, extends fruit processing with encouraging results through production chains with 57 agricultural mini-industries which provide more than a thousand tons of food varieties per year.

Ramón Rodríguez, general director of this entity, highlighted the contributions that these units offer from the credit and service cooperatives (CCS) created in the different Holguin municipalities to obtain mainly derivatives of guava, mango and tomato.

The La Negra mini-industry, located in the town of Floro Pérez, in the territory of Gibara, constitutes one of the most stable in its contributions to Turquino, a center that also offers its contributions to other provinces through the production chain to specifically favor the preparation of creams and jams intended for medical diets.

Within these lines, the La Gloria staff, from Calixto García municipality, also stands out in the production of pickled vegetables, corn tamales, garlic and onion paste, while that of Arroyo Seco in Banes works mainly in the processing of papaya fruit, as well as tomato and mango, said Rodríguez.

The Turquino canning factory, with more than seven decades of foundation, stands out integrally for the production of derivatives of mango, guava and tomato, but at the same time it expands other lines of great acceptance such as mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, pickled vegetables and nuts destined for the commercial system of the province.
