Holguin Celebrates Farmers Day in Barajagua

Barajagua, a settlement of rich tradition and history and National Monument, located in the municipality of Cueto, was the venue chosen to celebrate the Day of the Cuban farmer in the eastern province of Holguin. Acknowledgements, productive and patriotic reaffirmation of commitments, colored by the performances of local artists embellished the celebration of May 17th, which this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of National Association of Small Farmers, ANAP. Important events in the country were recalled, as the 35 years of the presence of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz at the site and his exchange with the peasants on May 16, 198, event reviewed by Ermelio Garcia, one of the protagonists. The meeting was chaired by members of the Central Committee Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, first secretary of the Party in the province and Rafael Santiesteban Pozo, National President of the ANAP; as well as the President of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, Julio César Estupiñán Rodriguez and other leaders. Milagro Serrano, Emilio Landrove, Mileidis Machin and Orladis Cabrera, received the condition of National Vanguard; while the local Credit and Services Cooperatives (CCS) Antonio Maceo and Olegario Martinez received title "55th anniversary". Farmers Alain Dominguez Osmani Perez, Alexander Almaguer and Nélsido Jaime Miranda welcomed the municipal vanguards certifications. Several traditional artistic moments enlivened the day and the climax came when Torres Iribar conferred the recognition of the Provincial Bureau of the party to the peasant organization. He then spoke to those gathered in Barajagua about the significance of the date, the present challenges and other activities dedicated to the 90th birthday of Fidel. He evoked the thought, action and legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution by quoting words addressed to the peasantry and Cubans in general.
