The sulfuric acid plant in Moa achieves millionaire savings

The sulfuric acid plant of the mixed Company Pedro Soto Alba - Moa Nickel S.A., in Moa, has achieved millionaire savings for the country by import substitution, since it was launched in mid-2016.

This modern plant efficiently produces and delivers to the factory such raw material, which historically was imported for its use in the process of extraction of nickel plus cobalt to lateritic minerals.

For each ton of sulfur obtained, one can get three of that chemical agent, hence imports were eliminated with its operation, which amounted to more than 55 percent of the sulfuric acid consumed by the industry, and it saved a thousand dollars a week.

The industrial facility, which draws one’s attention for its majesty from the entrance to "Pedro Sotto Alba", is technically equipped to guarantee the flow of production for which it was designed, with a total capacity of two thousand tons per day, affirmed factory managers.

Workers give an essential guarantee to this industry, which is currently impacted by the enforcement of Title III of the extraterritorial Helms-Burton Law, mainly in terms of the acquisition of liquefied gas and elements for mining trucks, according to the reports.
