Cuban President exercised his right to vote in constitutional referendum

Miguel Diaz Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, exercised in this city his right to vote in a historic day as he stated in a recent tweet: ¨# Cuba standing for the Yes to the Constitution and ratifying the support for the Bolivarian Revolution and President Nicolas Maduro.¨

Early in the morning and with his wife, Diaz Canel attended the electoral college located in the company Tecnosuma Internacional SA, in Playa municipality, to say yes for Cuba, for the Homeland and the Revolution, as he announced yesterday in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, when verifying in a tour the recovery tasks after the passage of the tornado of last January 27.

Also from his website, he had argued that the Constitution that was made jointly by Cubans guarantees the rights of each and every citizen of the nation, enhances the dignity of our people and it is anti-imperialist.

On Sunday, February 24, millions of Cubans will vote for the destinies of a Constitution that has been the fruit of the most democrat of the thought exercises, fruit of that popular knowledge is the text that is undergoing referendum this historic day of the Homeland. # YoVotoSí (I vote Yes), wrote the Cuban President in a tweet.

More than eight million Cubans are summoned to endorse the new Constitution, which was approved last December 22 by the National Assembly of People's Power, which ratifies the socialist character of the Caribbean island and the leading role of the Communist Party.

Holguín students reaffirm their support to the Constitutional referendum

Students from all levels of education met at the CalixtoGarcía park, in the city of Holguín, to reaffirm their support to the Constitutional referendum on February 24 as well as their support for the brother people of Venezuela.

The act was about commitment to the anti-imperialist and independence ideas entrusted by Hugo Chávez and Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.

This February 24, I will vote for Cuba and for keeping the conquests enjoyed by the people of Cuba, said pre-university student Alex Fernández Leyva.

The young boy also expressed his repudiation to the imperialist maneuvers of the United States government against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and reiterated his support toNicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan people.

With regard to the Constitutional Referendum, Melissa PerdomoDíaz, a student at the Lidia Doce secondary school, stressed that it is an example of citizen participation and highlighted the role of Cubans in the conception of the new Magna Carta.

At the meeting, children and young people demonstrated that the new generations feel committed to the Cuban revolutionary process and, although many do not have the age to exercise the right to vote, they support the Yes for the eternal future of the Homeland.

When history and science come together

The provincial history archive of Holguín, located downtown, is an institution of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. It holds great value for all the documentation it preserves, which is at its visitors’ disposal.

In this place, the history of the territory is protected and documental management is counseled. It is of public domain and it is part of the national archives web.

Director Lic. Zenaida Reyes Góngora mentioned they work hard to broaden the social object due to the annual increase of investigators, professionals and students, more than 3 thousand who use this documentary service.

Besides organizing, protecting, conserving and spreading records of historical value, their workers offer counseling and consulting services to entities, foundations or organizations ondocumental management in their respective fields. Likewise, they issue certifications and legalized copies of the authentic and public documents they store.

The main specialists of the archive technical processes department, María Elia Velásquez Cruz, explains their work as a team and the way they identify, classify, process and quantify the documentation so it can be available in the room.

When we asked about the most ancient parchment they keep, she showed us the notarial protocol of Lorenzo Castellanos from 1737, which encompasses a sell and segregation of 100 pesos of possession, with all the plantations and servants. On the other hand, among the most important and biggest notarial protocol records there are 140 notaries, who were known by then as scribes.

The specialist in archivist services, MaríaBelén Batista Hidalgo, mentions the work of technicians who are able of counseling and offering their knowledge regarding archive and documental management. Moreover, they can organize a collection of any period concerning the vital cycle of the documents. They have all conditions to offer restoration service and issue certifications to those who request it, even from the public or private sector.

MaríaBelén published “ADAI projects, a solution for the conservation of the documentary patrimony in Holguín”. On this topic she refers to the benefits provided by the International Association for the Development of Archives in Ibero America (ADAI), such as financial aid to improve the conditions of funds and collections of documents so as its storehouses which need to be protected; and at the same time to face internal and external factors that cause gradual deterioration to the accumulated patrimony.
