Produced Food in Holguin with Ecological Methods
The province of Holguin encourages the production of food with ecological methods through projects between the state sector and self-employed workers, as part of the strategy to contribute to sustainable development.
Calivid, a project that distinguishes these actions was created in 2014 in the municipality of Banes and is an example of these programs, with great social impact in the community.
As part of the initiative, condiments, fruit pulps, vegetables are grown, cultivated with the use of natural fertilizers, said José Ángel Reyes, creator of the initiative.
He specified that the alternative also contributes to the substitution of imports and reports economic savings as it changes the use of industrial fertilizers for compounds such as earthworm humus and compost, effective in the growth of crops.
He stressed that the products are sold primarily among the residents of the municipality, with wide acceptance for its quality and variety and the program has 23 horticultural plots.
Calivid, he elaborated, is also a source of employment for young people without it, which gives it a social connotation in the community.
Holguín also has a project in Business Services to Construction Workers (GARBO), which implements the use of organic compounds to the reproduction of fruit trees and timber, as well as tuber crops, vegetables and other crops.
These experiences are part of the application of the Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution that were approved in the VII Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba which are related to the development of sustainable agriculture in the Caribbean island.
