The emblematic Lyrical Theater "Rodrigo Prats", in Holguín, celebrates its 58th anniversary these days with the revival of the three-act operetta “The happy widow”, which tells a story of a wealthy woman and the attempt of her countrymen to maintain the fortune in the principality of Pontenegro.
Considered one of the company's anthological pieces, the play is assumed on this occasion by a mostly young cast who bravely plays various leading characters such as Count Danilo, Valencienne, Camilo de Rosillón and Glavary's widow.
The funny plot, full of entanglements, adventures, infidelities and greed, is enhanced by a colorful costume design and a successful scenography by Alejandro de la Torre, as well as the choreographic work of Alejandro Millán, who makes dance part of the dramaturgy and that performers also unfold as dancers.
The staging, under the general direction of María Dolores Rodríguez and Abel Carballosa, as artistic director, returns to Holguín after presenting it at the beginning of the year in important theaters in the West of the country, such as Sauto and Alicia Alonso.
A luxury proposal to celebrate 58 years of a company that has brought to national and international scenes more than 90 titles of operas, operettas, zarzuelas, musical magazines, concerts and recitals, and whose talent and tradition make it one of the pillars of lyrical art in Cuba.
