Almost Two Million Students to the Classrooms
The Cuban Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez, reported in Havana that the new school year will begin on September 3 with an enrollment of more than one million 745 thousand students.
During a press conference, the official said that this total of students will be received in 10 thousand 717 institutions and attended by more than 156 thousand teachers.
For this, an extensive investment process was carried out that
ensured the physical conditions and the indispensable resources in the educational centers, said the minister, quoted by the Cuban News Agency.
Among the novelties of the school year are the inauguration of a new pedagogical school in the western province of Pinar del Rio - with which 27 centers of this type will be added - and the beginning of the formation of Art Education teachers in various specialties for graduates of ninth grade.
Velázquez also indicated that two thousand 234 schools of the two thousand 264 affected in September 2017 by Hurricane Irma are ready thanks to the recovery tasks.
In addition, the Minister of Education commented that the improvement of the national education system will continue, fundamentally in the validation of future plans and programs of study, and in the implementation of new forms of work.
