Solidarity Group Calls for Respect of Cuba´s Rights / Prensa Latina, PL / Photos:
The members of the 39th Jose Marti European Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba called on the governments in their respective countries to respect the Caribbean island's rights to build a future.
They were also pleased with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro's public reappearance, where he talked on the dangerous conflicts that threaten world peace, the contingent's final statement says.
The group, comprised of 153 people from 15 nations, concluded on Tuesday its stay at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, located at the Havana municipality of Caimito.
Their agenda included a meeting with a representation of relatives of the five Cuban terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in US jails since
1998, whose prompt release they demanded.
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez are currently serving harsh sentences for gathering information about terrorist activities carried out by anti-Cuban organizations in Miami, Florida, in order to prevent the deaths of Cuban and even US citizens.
The brigade members also demanded the end of the US-imposed economic, trade and financial blockade on Cuba that has lasted for almost 50 years.
According to the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the group worked voluntarily in agriculture, held meetings with people and political and social organizations, and visited sites of historic and cultural interest.
