The 39th contingent of the Jose Marti European Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba concluded their stay in the island on Tuesday after 15 days making their contribution in agricultural activities and sharing experiences with the Cuban people. The vice president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Elio Gamez, bid farewell to the 153 activists from 15 countries at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in the municipality of Caimito, in Habana province. Spanish Olga Blazquez read the Final Declaration in which the solidarity group expressed their gratitude for this opportunity to learn about Cuba’s reality at first hand and ratified their commitment to continue working so that their respective governments respect |
Cuba’s right to build its own future. The document reflects their happiness for Fidel Castro’s recent public appearances and adds that they agree with the leader of the Cuban Revolution’s opinions about the current threats to world peace. It also rejects the use of nuclear technology for military purposes. During their stay in Cuba, the solidarity activists participated in lectures, workshops and meetings with members of Cuban political, social and grass-roots organizations and also with relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998 for monitoring extremist groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against the island. |
