The Colombian film La Torre deserved the Humberto Solás Grand Prix in the Cinema under construction category during the closing of the Gibara International Film Festival.
Juan Moreno's script and direction took the senior laureate in this section whose special jury prize went to Antes que Llegue el Ferry, a Spanish-Cuban film by Juan Caunedo, Vladimir García and Raúl Escobar. In the gala of delivery the Prizes Lucía were also recognized and in fiction film The Open Door, of Marina Seresesky of Spain reached it; whereas the best short film of fiction turned out to be La Costurera, of Rosa Maria Rodriguez, of Cuba.
The best female performance was earned by Carmen Machi for her role in La Puerta Abierta, while the male prize went to Cuban actors Jorge Martínez and Patricio Wood for their performance in Últimos Días en La Habana.
As Best Film Director, Isaki Lacuesta and Isa Campo were recognized for their work La Próxima Piel, de España), while Pablo Milanes of Juan Pin Vilar, was selected as Best Long Documentary. The jury chose for Best Short Documentary the film work En Contra del Viento, by Lenia Sainiut.
The first edition of the Gibara International Film Festival was held in the coastal city of northern Holguín province with over one hundred works in the categories of fiction, documentaries and films under construction.
The meeting paid homage to the Villa de Gibara, on the 200th anniversary of its foundation as a coastal city with a rich architectural and historical heritage and home to several locations in different films by Humberto Solás, founder and considered father of this event.
This year Spain was the guest country of honor.
