The province of Holguín resumed the academic year 2017-18 in practically the whole territory, after the interruption of the educational program because of the passage of Hurricane Irma through Cuba.
Rafael Aguilera, the provincial director of Education, confirmed that the different school facilities were signed up as soon as possible, except for two primary schools in the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, which received heavy damage to their infrastructure.
He pointed out that the furniture and the material base of studies, including televisions and computers, were protected thanks to the fast work of teachers and workers, strictly complying with the indications of the Civil Defense in cases of this nature.
The evaluation on preparations for the resumption of classes the material insurance of each center and the guarantee of professorial force that will assume the continuation of the academic year was highlighted, including retired teachers and university students, as an alternative solution to the current shortage of staff on that front of teaching.
The province restarts the school period with an enrollment of 168,128 students at different levels of education, nearly two thousand above the previous one, and the guarantee of educational programs even for those schools in more distant places where their assets were protected before the passage of the hurricane through the province.
