Some 7.3 tons of materials for humanitarian aid to Cuba, affected after devastating Hurricane Irma on the north coast of the country, were received in Havana from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

This was the first donation to arrive in the Caribbean nation after the powerful meteor attack, which consists of mattresses, canned food, water and other supplies, which will be allocated by the National Defense Council to the most affected areas of the country , declared Roberto López, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.

The vice-president thanked the people and President Nicolás Maduro for this assistance, "expression of solidarity and brotherhood between both countries," while ensuring that shipments of the Bolivarian nation and other regions will continue to arrive.

He mentioned the permanent disposition of that brother country before any affectation in the Island, while recognizing the expressions of solidarity and the messages received from other nations.

Major René Pérez, commander of the Chinese aircraft Y-8, on board of which the humanitarian load came, highlighted the brotherhood between Cubans and Venezuelans in this type of situations.

Following the passage of the powerful hydrometeorological phenomenon along the northern coast of the country, Cubans perform intense recuperative work to return the vitality to facilities of economic interest and houses damaged by winds, heavy rains and sea penetrations associated with the meteor.
