The Art Museum in Gibara in the province of Holguin, only of its type in the eastern region reopened its doors on Friday after a refurbishing process as part of the activities for National Culture Day.
The installation treasures collections from the 19th and 20 th centuries, imported from Germany, France and England, which includes furniture, decorate vases, lamps, cups, glasses and other objects.
The Director of the Provincial Center of Cultural Heritage, Evelyn Hernandez told ACN that the institution expressed the customs of the society of Gibara of the time, characterized by the acquisition of materials from Europe.
She added that the construction of the building dates back to 1868 with a neoclassic architectural style, which identifies the municipality located some 30 kilometers from the city of Holguin.
Renowned artists and conservationists that contributed to the restoration work were recognized after ten years closed to the public due to damages inflicted by Hurricane Ike that hit the eastern region in September of 2008.
Gibara is a city that is distinguished by its heritage and architectural richness and has natural values among them the Caletones Ecological Reserve where there are over 200 endemic species of flora and fauna whose destination has a great impact for tourism.
