The singer and songwriter Pablo Milanés gave a special concert to the inhabitants of Villa Blanca, a coastal city in the north east of Cuba, during the opening gala of the Gibara International Film Festival.
From the very presentation of the founder of the New Trova by the actor René de la Cruz junior, began the ovation towards one of the greatest exponents of the Cuban Song history of the last decades.
Themes that transcend generations like Love me as I am, it has not been easy, and the classic Yolanda heard before a crowd that chanted each one of the lyrics.
The melody of Pablo, and its unmistakable timbre, became a special gift for the opening day of the first edition of the cinematographic event, which was born more than a decade ago with the name of Poor Cinema, with the director Humberto Solás.
In fact, the director of films like Lucía y Miel for Oshún is dedicated to the event, which also pays homage to the actresses Adela Legrá and Eslinda Núñez and the Solás family for their contributions to the seventh art and to Cuban culture.
The first edition of the Gibara International Film Festival will run until the coming 21st, with more than a hundred works in the categories of fiction, documentaries and films under construction.
The meeting will pay homage to the Villa de Gibara, on the 200th anniversary of its founding as a coastal city in the north of the province of Holguín, with a rich architectural and historical heritage and location of several locations in different Solás films.
The music also accompanies the days of the seventh art because, besides Pablo Milanés, will present Kelvis Ochoa, David Torrens, Athanai, David Blanco, Havana de Primera and Red Cloud, among others.
Despite not being called Cinema Pobre, the encounter of the seventh art is heir of the ideas of Solás, but with this change it is tried to extend the spectrum to the participating works, in search of films of better quality, regardless of the budget with which they were billed, recently said Jorge Perugorría, president of the Festival.
This year, Spain is the guest country of Honor, so several films from the Iberian nation come, accompanied by actors and directors of international renown.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry and the Governments of the province of Holguín and the host municipality.
