The international project on strengthening the new information and communications technologies in the Cuban universities began on Tuesday at the University of Holguin in an evaluation process of its academic and social outcomes.
Coordinated by the Flamenco Interuniversity Council of Belgium since 2012, the program unifies these institutions with the universities of Holguin, Camaguey, Villa Clara, Pinar del Rio and the Computer Sciences in Havana.
Advisor to the Rector and Coordinator in Holguin, Arquimedes Leyva told ACN that the project’s objective is the development of good practices of the universities aimed at improving the quality and integrity of the results of Higher Education.
He pointed out that they have three working objectives, one, dedicated to strengthen scientific research, another related with the increase of technology infrastructure and last on the need to manage knowledge in the current media context.
The creation of repositories for the publication and visibility of scientific research is one of the main impacts already seen in the centers, said the directive.
These achievements includes the university of Holguin, the consolidation of the technology departments infrastructure with the creation of a film and laboratory set specialized to prepare students and teachers in the English language, he said.
The project also increased the relationships in the postgraduate section among the member institutions and several Cuban educational centers obtained scholarships for the formation of PhD’s in computer sciences.
After six years of the program and with concrete evidence, the continuation of the project will be evaluated for an additional period of some 78 months always prioritizing the development of Cuban economy and society.
The University of Holguin currently has some 170 agreements and letters of intent with institutions of over 20 countries, among the top are Germany, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Ecuador and Colombia.
