The illuminated Cuba show, by Spanish photographer Héctor Garrido, was inaugurated in the Municipal Museum of Gibara, where the International Film Festival takes place, named after the coastal town of northern Holguín province in eastern Cuba.
The project developed from 2010 to 2016 involved more than 250 Cuban artists, athletes and relevant scientists, among them the musician Chucho Valdés, the dancer Alicia Alonso, the troubadours Pablo Milanés and Silvio Rodríguez and the writer Leonardo Padura captured by the lens of Garrido, born in Huelva in 1969.
Actors such as Laura de la Uz, Eslinda Núñez, Jorge Perugorría, Héctor Noas, Vladimir Cruz, Mirta Ibarra, María Isabel Díaz, Broselianda Hernández, Rosita Fornés, Daisy Granados, Luis Alberto García and Aramís Delgado stand out among the faces that the Iberian photographer gives the people of Gibara.
The revelation of the snapshots in the largest Caribbean nation also comes from the hand of great figures of the sport as the boxer Felix Savon, the runner Ana Fidelia Quirot and the high jumper Javier Sotomayor.
Photographer specialized in science and portraiture, the snapshots of Garrido are internationally known for exploring new spaces and concepts and, in a prominent way, for the use of science as raw material and artistic expression base.
He has edited 17 books and made more than one hundred photographic and informative exhibitions, as well as frequently publishing his photographs in important print media such as El Pais, El País Semanal, National Geographic and El Mundo.
He is a regular member of jury prizes for photography such as Fotocam, Fotciencia, Ronda Scientific Cinema Biennial, Andalusia Environmental Photography, among others.
The first edition of the International Film Festival of Gibara takes place until the coming 21st day in the White Villa with over a hundred works in the categories of fiction, documentaries and films under construction.
